#InspiringChangeMakers: Lessons from life and business
Facebook Africa, 2020.
Brief was to celebrate inspirational South African women through portraiture for a vibrant coffee table book containing stories relating to success and businesses by each of the women.
Solution:
A series of posters that not only celebrated the women through illustration but also creating a unique pattern for each of the women as they individually told a different story about their success. The overarching gold and Facebook blue are two of some of the colours I proposed to be used as a consistent colour scheme as the illustrator’s styles and colour pallette were very different.

Through the use of collage and patterns, each portrait hints to each womans’ profession or what they are synonymously known for.

Zithande Poster series

In this poster series I remind myself that change is good and growth is even better because not a lot of people get to experience this. The poster series serves as a reminder and affirmation that even through the uncomfortable parts of growing I should never forget to love myself, whichever form I take. I should allow myself to grow into the woman I am becoming. It’s hard but, worth it and I love it.

Astra Magazine cover
Had the honour of designing the cover of Finnish based Astra magazine @tidskriftenastra. This was the first time they gave the issue to a guest editor and Jasmin Kelekay did not disappoint 🔥🔥. Titled “Black feminism in the nordics” the issue looks at the impact black feminism has in the region both past and present. But also looking at the future for possible answers.
My take on it was to make it bold and beautiful like all the black women throughout history who have contributed to the fight against racism, sexism, and everything in between. Being South African and only have been in the country for such a short period of time, being asked to design the cover for such an important cause meant a lot to me. Another contribution to the magazine was a poem and photographs looking at my artistic exploration of 'Here I stand'. They can be found on page 20.
iNkululeko(freedom) is what we are striving for. It begins with loving yourself and those from whom you come from. Only after are we able to see the value of our existence and contribute to the liberation of our people.
